How To Get A Thigh Gap

Wondering how to get a thigh gap? You're not alone. Over the last decade, a thigh gap has been seen as the "beauty ideal" sought after by women of all shapes and ages.

But what is a thigh gap? And how can you get one?

What Is A Thigh Gap?

A thigh gap is pretty much what it says on the tin: A space between the inner thighs when you're standing upright with your feet touching. The elusive thigh gap is seen by some people as a sign of attractiveness and a sign of physical fitness and femininity.

Do we believe this to be true? Of course not!

We certainly don't condone the pressure put on women to achieve the "perfect body" from the media, celebrities and influencers who appear airbrushed and perfect.

Can Anyone Get A Thigh Gap?

A thigh gap occurs when three factors combine – toned leg and thigh muscles, healthy levels of body fat and certain bone structure features that allow for the feet to touch while allowing a gap in the thighs.

Bone structure…? So wait, does that mean if you don't have the right bone structure then you quest for how to get a thigh gap is a waste of time and you're doomed to have thighs that rub when you walk?

Not exactly.

The only way to know for sure if your body is capable of a thigh gap is to get your legs in shape and lose any excess fat you might be carrying on your thighs. Once you reach your ideal body weight and muscle tone, you'll be able to see just how "gappy" your bone structure allows.

Disappointed? Don't be.

While not everyone will have the bone structure that allows them to develop a full thigh gap, everyone has the ability to develop firm, toned and beautiful thighs that look attractive and feminine.

Why Women Carry Weight On Their Thighs

While a thigh gap is a super sought after attribute, it can be one of the hardest body goals to achieve. Not only because of the need for a certain bone structure but because of the way that women store body fat.

Up until menopause, women tend to store most of their excess body fat on their hips and thighs. This is mostly to do with the hormone estrogen and how it interacts with body fat.

As you get older and approach menopause your estrogen levels decrease. But don't celebrate just yet – reducing estrogen levels doesn't necessarily mean that you'll store less fat on your thighs, it just means you might store it on your belly too! When you combine this with the fact that lower estrogen levels lead to reduced collagen production and a loss of elasticity in your skin, you have the perfect storm for thigh cellulite!

But it's not all bad news, whether you're still in the midst of your fertile days, premenopausal or post-menopausal, you can still get firm, toned thighs and work towards that thigh gap.

How To Get A Thigh Gap

If you want to know how to get a thigh gap then you're in the right place.

As we've already discussed, a thigh gap requires three things: toned muscles, low thigh fat and a specific bone structure.

You can't alter your bone structure but you can reduce your thigh fat and tone up your muscles to give you that smooth, sexy thigh line you're looking for.

How To Get A Thigh Gap: Muscle Tone

So let's talk about muscle tone. Learning how to get a thigh gap includes understanding the anatomy of your leg muscles and regular training to create strong, toned thighs.

Not only do strong thigh muscles help to create the shape of your thighs but they can change your posture too, adjusting the way you stand. Which can influence how "gappy" your thighs look.

Some good exercises for a thigh gap include squats, leg lifts, bridge raises, lateral lunges and star jumps.

How To Get A Thigh Gap: Fat Loss

The truth is, while muscle tone is an important part of how to get a thigh gap, if you don't deal with the fat deposits on your thighs then you're never going to reach your goal.

If you want to lose fat from your thighs you've two options: go on a fat burning diet or get a fat reduction treatment.

In an ideal world, I'd recommend both.

A diet will help reduce your body fat and ensure that all your hard work lasts while non-surgical fat reduction treatments can help to target specific areas of stubborn body fat and give your fat loss a boost.

For a fat-burning diet, my preference is the Keto Diet – If you want to learn why check out my previous blog post on it here…

Non-Surgical Treatments That Can Help

There's a range of non-surgical treatments that can help you to slim down and firm up your thighs too.

Fat Freezing

Fat Freezing (or cryolipolysis) is a non-surgical fat removal treatment that helps eliminate stubborn body fat. Using cold temperatures we can destroy unwanted fat cells pn your thighs signalling to the body that it's time to get rid of them. Over the following weeks, your body's natural waste removal system clears out the cells, leaving your thighs smoother and slimmer.

Fat Freezing is painless and requires no cutting, stitching or recovery time. Making it a hugely popular fat removal treatment.

Ultrasound Cavitation

Ultrasound Cavitation offers another non-surgical fat reduction solution, but instead of the cold temperatures used in Fat Freezing, this treatment harnesses the power of ultrasound to destroy your unwanted fat cells ready for your body to clear out.

It's painless, safe and there's no need for a recovery time as it's a totally non-invasive treatment.

If you've experienced significant weight loss, you might find the skin in your thighs feels loose or even saggy. Not ideal if you're looking for slim, sexy thighs!

The Exilis Elite is a non-surgical skin tightening treatment that can help reduce excess skin without going under the knife. Using radiofrequency and ultrasound technology we can stimulate collagen and elastin production in your skin, making it stronger and more elastic.
